Content Repositories
WPS utilizes SQL Server 2005 to house content, metadata and other content linkages, workflow status and system administrative data. There are two repositories in the system, one to house editorial content and one to house published content, which is used to drive content products. During the content authoring/editing process, all content can be tagged with a configurable set of metadata elements. Content can also be assigned to one or more content hierarchies or structures in the repository.
Publishing Process
The Publishing Process is responsible for moving data from the editorial repository to the published repository. This occurs when content is approved for publishing via workflow activities. Content set to be published can be published immediately or can be scheduled for future publication. Similarly, content that is published can be manually archived or removed from the published repository or can have a scheduled archive date. WPS also allows for versioning, so a newer content version can replace an existing version during the publish process.
Web Publishing Solution API
WPS provides a published content API. This enables searching and viewing of content and associated details in the published content repository. The API is designed to drive a web site and provides the typical content access functions required to deliver content to the web.
Editorial Application
The Content Management Systems’ Editorial Application is the main interface of WPS and enables the management of content within the system. It includes a variety of content management features and functions:
Inbox for viewing content assignments by user.
Browse screen for navigating and viewing content.
Search screen for finding content including the ability to search on user-defined meta-data fields.
Fully featured content editor for the entry and adjustment of content. Editor has full word-processing like functionality, including font settings, spell check, track changes, comments, tables, etc. Editor also has custom functions for inserting images, links and references to content already resident in the repository.
User-configurable meta-data assignments that can be based on authority lists.
Ability to set content properties, such as current assignment status, key dates, headline, summary, keywords, categories and contributor details.
Multimedia
Web Publishing Solution enables the management of a multimedia repository. Multimedia consists of any type of content to be displayed with or linked to the main system content. This can be an image that is displayed inline within a piece of content or a PDF, Excel file, or video that can be linked to by a piece of content.
System Administration
WPS enables the management of system level information and settings by an administrator, including Users, Products, Templates, Meta-data, References and System settings/functions:
User information is stored for each system user and controls the privileges that a user gets on a particular piece of content.
WPS can house multiple products, each having its own meta data.
Configuration
This Content Management System has many configurable options, including user types, roles, content workflow, meta-data and outputs. This ensures that content can be enriched with meta-data, enhanced with relational links, and delivered to content consumers.
